We Make Your Life Better™

ODL's purpose statement of "We Make Your Life Better™" is a commitment reflected in the actions of our employees, the impact of our products, and the representation of our brand every day.

The phrase should always use Title Case and include the Trademark symbol ™ at the end.

Brand Promise

Building Value Into Building Products®

The phrase should always use Title Case and include the Registered symbol ® at the end.

Core Values

Solid. Soft. Risky.

The ODL brand, as well as its culture, is built on a foundation of these core values.

Solid. We are a financially strong business with an open, honest demeanor supported by a diverse workforce with initiative to learn and improve.

Soft. We are a company with a soft heart, compassionate to employees and responsive to the communities where we live and work.

Risky. We are a company with a risky appetite for innovation, recognizing that uncertainty is a part of business. We are willing to take calculated risks with new products, location and people.

Logo

Logo

The ODL logo's clean and purposeful lines reflect the accompanying mission statement of Building Value Into Building Products®. In instances where the tagline would be too small to be legible, the ODL icon alone is acceptable. In addition, alternative logo designs may be employed based on color, printing specifications, and maintaining balance and consistency in the images.

The ODL logo uses three colors: ODL green, black, and white. The logo should primarily be used on a white background, which provides the most clarity. In cases where the green logo is not appropriate, the black or white logo can be used.

Lockup

In instances where ODL wants to be a part of a logo lock-up with another brand, certain standards must be maintained.

The two logos should:

  • Always be separated with a dividing line
  • Spaced appropriately
  • Other logo in lock-up should be a similar size
    to the ODL logo
  • In a vertical lock-up, ODL should be on top of the partner logo. In a horizontal lock-up, ODL should be to the left of the partner logo.
  • Logo placement should be agreed upon by both brands

Clearance & Sizing

To ensure the integrity of the logo, the area directly surrounding it should be protected.

White space should be maximized whenever possible.

The minimum clearance around the logo is represented by the height and width of the  ‘O’ in ODL.

The ODL logo may only be reduced to a certain size. Legibility should always be the priority and enforcing this minimum will ensure this standard.

Minimum size:

  • 40 px height on screen
  • .5 inches height in print

Alternate Backgrounds

The logo should typically be used on a white background. This ensures legibility and clarity. In circumstances where the white background does not fit, use a background or photo that provides the best contrast with the logo and refer to the following guidelines:

1. Use the reversed white logo on dark photos or backgrounds

2 Use the green or black logos on lighter backgrounds or photos

Photography Style Examples

Photos for ODL need to be clear and high-resolution. They should showcase ODL products as refined and traditional. With the exception of retail products, photography should not include people, and should represent a cohesive library of polished and aspirational homes. There should be no photography representing the ODL brand that primarily depicts a color outside of the brand's color palette.

For photos of homes (may be referred to as application shots, app shots, or beauty shots), the ODL product represented should reflect the style of the home, including the home exterior and interior.

Detail images should accurately represent the privacy level of the glass.

No reflections should be seen and there should be no added filters to product images.

Messaging / Voice

Messaging

Building Value

Messaging for ODL should be consistent with the promise, core values and purpose of the brand.

Voice

Polished and Professional

The voice of ODL is professional but personable. ODL should always speak from a position of authority in the industry, using precise language with proper grammar and formatting. Refrain from using vernacular that is closely associated with any one region, as well as slang and emoticons.

Tone

Personable and Knowledgeable

The tone of ODL should be friendly and helpful. Professional doesn’t mean rude or abrupt, and any messaging coming from ODL should reflect our values. ODL is an industry leader in building materials and should seek to educate and inform both our business customers and end consumers.

Variance in tone based on setting or platform is permissible, as long as the guidelines for voice and messaging are followed. A good rule of thumb is to convey information as one would to a respected colleague.

Industry Terms

Spelling & Word Usage

Please refer to the following guidelines for use of certain industry terms under ODL branding:

  • Doorlight and Sidelight: These should always be written as compound words.
"Sidelite" and "door light" are incorrect.
  • Door glass vs. doorglass: Door glass describes glass that is suitable for installation into a door. (ex. "Decorative door glass adds character to an entryway." and "Door glass is tempered or laminated in compliance with building codes.") Doorglass may be used as a synonym of doorlight.
